Architect's Note
Nestled amongst the existing Ukay Heights neighbourhood in Kuala Lumpur.  This home was designed for an expatriate    client who wanted a home that could participate fully in its natural tropical environment.  With very little dependencyon air-conditioning, the main spaces like the living, dining & kitchen were designed to be totally open to the pool & garden by the use of louveredwindows and glass doors that could be completely opened & hidden from view.  The main building structure was designed in steel in order to be as light weight as possible.  The clients requirement for a 100 year lifespan meant that the steel had to be filled internally with concrete and coated externally with marine grade paint to mitigate rusting.  The combination use of steel with traditional material like timber creates an interesting new architectural language for the new vernacular style.
