The Enclave House
Selangor, Malaysia
The Enclave House in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam, was designed for a family of five on a 15,600 sq ft plot. The client requested a 6,000 sq ft home that included living spaces, a kitchen, dining room, guest room, master bedroom, three additional bedrooms, and water features. Given the large site, a single-storey design was chosen to connect the house to the garden, inspired by Geoffrey Bawa's use of courtyards and water features. The design evolved into a 1.5-storey house, with rooms offering an outdoor experience. Full height sliding doors blur the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces. The layout includes courtyards, concrete walkways for ventilation, and exposed, rugged finishes like off-form concrete and unpainted plaster. The gable-style roof, exposed steel structure, and concrete floors complement the natural aesthetic. Sustainable features include rainwater harvesting, solar panels, cross-ventilation, and LED lighting, reducing the need for air conditioning.
